The Graduate Program of Universitas Lampung, Indonesia, is hosting the 6th SHIELD 2022 international conference with the theme “Sustainable development and a multidisciplinary approach to the social sciences and humanities.” The event will be held in Bandar Lampung City on the Indonesian island of Sumatra from November 3 to 5, 2022. This event will utilize a hybrid working approach, combining an in-person meeting with an online Zoom. It is anticipated that attendees and presenters would interact in this manner, using technology to connect to worldwide networks.
As is well recognized in the literature, sustainable development is a multidisciplinary notion that spans several scientific fields. However, it has a fragmented literature, and each specialized field of study examines it and imparts it from a limited viewpoint. Therefore, there is a need to figure out how to promote dialogue and collaboration across various disciplines with regards to sustainable development. As the theme implies, the approach is deliberately multidisciplinary and draws on numerous scholarly sources. In other words, authors must take considerable care to pinpoint key intersections between different disciplines. In so doing, the audience is provided with an informative and compelling foundation from which to have productive debates across disciplinary and discursive borders. These objectives often go beyond the realm of academia and also strive to affect social change.
Moreover, many societal concerns that must be addressed through research and innovation are too complicated for a single scientific discipline to solve. A contemporary example is the COVID-19 pandemic, whose impacts included socioeconomic disruption and profound cultural and behavioral change. Therefore, it is anticipated that this conference will provide academics, practitioners, and students interested in conducting multidisciplinary research on sustainable development with a particularly strong and approachable base.
As such, this international conference, featuring four keynote speakers from Indonesia, Singapore, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, aims to provide a forum for the dissemination of innovative and significant advances in the social sciences and humanities for sustainable development, with a focus on social sciences and sustainability, the humanities and sustainability, and economic issues and sustainable development, as well as education for sustainable development. Therefore, we invite scholars, academics, researchers, experts, practitioners, and university students to participate and exchange ideas, experiences, and research findings by submitting papers on a variety of topics pertinent to the conference’s theme and scope. All abstracts and articles submitted for consideration will be subjected to a double-blind peer review procedure to ensure their quality, relevance, and originality.
